SlutWalk is an international movement that fights rape culture, victim blaming, and slut shaming. It was born in 2011 as a response to an all-too common expression of institutional rape culture: a police officer’s public statement to a group of college students: “women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized.” SlutWalk Chicago is a social construct where supporters of gender equity can share their stories, empower themselves and one another, and in where allies can join victims to change the world we live in.
